Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow... at a Discount.
Why?
It’s a book reading frenzy. Little (and big) Harry’s and a host of wizards and witches camp out in doorways of book stores waiting to live the adventures of their hero. Book in hand many can’t wait to get home and read… they drop right there on the bookstore floor and disappear into the pages.
Fans of the book want it now! The last thing on their mind is price.
What frustrates fans is standing in line waiting once the magic hand says "time to sell." That magic time was 9:01am in Australia.
So why do many department store retailers discount Harry opening day? Do the marketing people honestly think once shoppers have book in hand they’ll wander around the store and buy some full priced items? My instinct tells me no. What do you think?
Wouldn’t a better strategy be to get the book in the hands of Harry fans faster than any other store?
