Are You Helping Customers Remember?
Finger Tip Marketing
By Sonya Winterbotham
Even a goldfish would put my memory to shame… So each time I get an SMS from my physio and it’s my 24 hour reminder of tomorrow’s appointment… I could kiss the phone.
A 25 cent text, is my saviour… I just wish I could get everybody else on board – the doctors, the dentist, the mechanic… Hang on a minute… Why aren’t they doing this?

Even a goldfish would put my memory to shame… So each time I get an SMS from my physio and it’s my 24 hour reminder of tomorrow’s appointment… I could kiss the phone.
A 25 cent text, is my saviour… I just wish I could get everybody else on board – the doctors, the dentist, the mechanic… Hang on a minute… Why aren’t they doing this?
I can’t be the only person who needs my phone to be buzzing with reminders all day… Can I?
Second to word of mouth… a text has got to be the cheapest marketing you can do for your business. And it’s just the beginning of what I call “finger tip marketing”.
Are you using it? Are your competitors?
Email, web, SMS, MMS… All of these vehicles can be used to grow your customer relations… if you use them wisely. Because while I love my physio reminder, I hate my phone company sending me marketing junk. So before you click and send, think first.
Learn as much about your customers as possible… The first appointment I had at the physio asked… “How would you like to be reminded of your appointment?” I chose text. Other people might prefer email or a phone call, or not to be reminded at all. But finding out that information first, means you won’t risk being seen as “annoying”. Just like in all your other advertising, always ask – what’s in it for your customers?
Find out what they’re interested in, what they want to know about, what they intend to buy in the future, what their needs are of your business and what’s on their wish list. This way you can alert them ahead of time… Being seen as “helpful” is the key to making this form of marketing a success.
And if you’re in the service industry – no matter what it is, from a physio to a carpet cleaner, I guarantee your clients will thank you for that 25 cent reminder text.
There’s a few of us out there who are just like Goldfish.
