When People Want Your Advice...

"When you can, always advise people to do what you see they really want to do, so long as what they want to do isn't dangerously unlawful, stupidly unsocial, or obviously impossible. Doing what they want to do, they may succeed; doing what they don't want to do, they won't."
- James Gould Cozzens

Saturday 29th March 2008... Two Big Events

1. Wizard of Ads founding Partner Roy H. Williams turns '50'

"But... yesterday I was only 24." - Roy H. Williams

I raise my glass... To a man who never considered for a second... the contentment of a life in the village of compromise. It's always been, Destinae or bust.

Congratulations Big Fella... have a great day.

2. Earth Hour - (Be patient as it is an extremely slow loading site)

At 8pm tonight... Are you turning out your lights for an hour?

Earth%20Hour.jpg"On March 31 2007, for one hour, Sydney made a powerful statement about the greatest contributor to global warming – coal-fired electricity – by turning off its lights. Over 2.2 million Sydney residents and over 2,100 businesses switched off, leading to a 10.2% energy reduction across the city. What began as one city taking a stand against global warming caught the attention of the world.

In 2008, 24 global cities will participate in Earth Hour at 8pm on March 29. Earth Hour is the highlight of a major campaign to encourage businesses, communities and individuals to take the simple steps needed to cut their emissions on an ongoing basis. It is about simple changes that will collectively make a difference – from businesses turning off their lights when their offices are empty, to households turning off appliances rather than leaving them on standby."

The ROI of Free

"If you want to gain the attention of potential customers who aren’t actively searching for the solutions you offer, don’t just tell them about your solution, give them a way to interact without having to commit to anything. Bring the visitor into the experience and let the experience sell itself."
- Melissa Burdon, Future Now Inc

Contemplation

By Roy H. Williams

RoyAndPennieWilliams.jpgTwenty-five years ago, my friend Richard Exley read me some words I've never forgotten.
Here they are:

If I had my life to live over, I’d try to make more mistakes next time. I would relax. I would limber up. I would be sillier than I have been on this trip. I would be crazier. I would be less hygienic. I would take more chances. I would take more trips. I would climb more mountains, swim more rivers, watch more sunsets.

I would eat more ice cream and less beans.

I would have more real troubles and fewer imaginary ones. You see, I am one of these people who lives prophylactically and sensibly and sanely, hour after hour, day after day.

Oh, I have had my moments and, if I had it to do over again, I’d have more of them. In fact, I’d try to have nothing else - just moments, one after another, instead of living so many years ahead each day.

I have been one of those people who never goes anywhere without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, a gargle, a raincoat and a parachute.

How To Get Free Advertising

A Simple Tactic For Every Business

By Tim Miles, Wizard Partner

What are you doing, specifically, to ensure word on the street about you is good?

Mac%20Book%20Pro%20product-15in.jpg Several of us here at Wizard of Ads are Mac users.

Mac recently upgraded their operating system. Many users have reported problems with the upgrade.

My wife and I had no such (sfx: hand knocking on wood) problems. Both her MacBook and my MacBook Pro hum along quite nicely.

My Mac guy knows this. How?

He called us to ask how we were doing.

He called us. At home. Simply to ask how things were going. And to ask if there was anything he could do.

It cost him nothing but a few moments of his time. He'd already made the sale.
